Please note, these instructions apply to bench-top copper stills, like those we sell at Gincraft Australia. Commercial stills will require a lot more effort!

If your still looks like this, you have already failed
If your still looks like this, you have already failed

When distillation is done, it’s important to clean your still so it stays looking beautiful. Here’s how:

  1. Wait until it cools! Seriously - don’t burn yourself.

  2. Pour the methylated spirits from your burner back into the bottle. This is both safety-conscious and a money saver. Use a funnel and pour over the sink, cleaning up any spillage.

  3. Disassemble your still and dispose of the botanicals and remaining liquids.

  4. Clean each part individually. Rinse the part well in warm water, and scrub with a clean brush. Do not use detergents or harsh cleaning chemicals.

  5. Thoroughly dry each part. Yes, it’s a pain but if you don’t do it then copper will tarnish and dry spotty. If this happens, you’ll need to fully polish your still to bring it back to its former glory.

Pack it away and you’re done!
